In the field of current coordination chemistry, metal-organic coordination polymers(MOFs) have attracted more attentions of the researchers on the field, which show morepotential applications, such as, in gas storage, molecular separation, catalysis, and magnetism.The relatively excellent thermal stability and high surface area of imidazolate frameworks aremainly attributed to the zeolitic structures which are attributed to four-connect nodes of themetal, coordination orientation of the imidazole ligand of145and the rotation flexibility ofthe coordination bond. By a rational design and synthesis, we hope that the more zeoliticframewoks could be obtained from imidazolate derivates, such as the imidaoles substitutedwith carboxlic groups. This dissertation started from the design and synthesis of the ligand ofimidazolte derivates with a carboxlic group, but accidently, is the ligand of ()-trans-4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-bis(4-carboxylphenyl)imidazolidine (DHBCI) obtained. Meanwhile, seriesof imidazolidine derivates without carboxlic groups were synthesized. Therefore, thisdissertation contains two following parts.The first part: synthesis and characterization of the ligand of DHBCI and itscoordination plomers. From the ligand, three novel coordination polymers of[Cu(DHBCI)·H2O]n(1),[Cd3(DHBCI)2·(DMF)2]n(2),[Mn1.5(DHBCI)1.5]n(3) weresynthesized. Compound1is chiral, having a space group of P6(1)22(or P6(5)22) anddemonstrating a unprecidented3-fold interpenetrated (4,4)-net. Compound2crystallizes inthe space group P1, exhibiting a2D structure; Compound3crystallizes in the space groupP2(1)/m, exhibiting a3D structure.The second part: synthesis and characterization of the novel imidazolidine derivates. Byfacile condensation of aromatic amines of4-aminobenzoic acid,2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine,3-aminopyridine,4-bromobenzenamine and4-methylbenzenaminewith glyoxal and formaldehyde which are catalyzed by acid/base under one/two step reaction,five novel () trans-4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-diarylimidazolidines (DHDAIs) were firstly preparedand they were all characterized by X-ray single crystal analysis, NMR, IR and elementaryanalysis.
