There are many excellent properties of ultra-high molecular weightpolyethylene, but its poor heat resistance, strength weaker restricts on itsuse. This article uses ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene filled inthe glass bead to prepare composite materials which has good heatresistance and mechanical properties.By changing the content of the glass beads to study theperformance of composites. In this thesis, using5%,10%,15%,20%weight percent of glass beads to prepare the glass bead/UHMWPEcomposites. Using the titanate coupling agent to modify glass beads andadds them into the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.Performance of non-modified and modified composites are compared bystudying. The results show: with increasing content of glass bead, the tensilestrength composite has been improved. The tensile strength of modifiedcomposite reaches the maximum30.53MPa when glass beads content as5%. Which is2.05MPa higher than the pure ultra high molecular weightpolyethylenethe, and0.99MPa higher than5%unmodified composite. With the increasing glass bead content, the variation of the yield strengthis similar with tensile strength, and elongation at break is decreased, andthe storage modulus increases. These show that the glass beads help toimprove the mechanical properties of composites. From Vicat softeningpoint of view, we can see the thermal properties of the compositeincreasing first and then stabilized. When the glass bead content is10%,the softening point of the unmodified and modified composites, respectively, to105.2℃,113.2℃,which are20.2℃,28.2℃higherthan pure UHMWPE. With the glass bead content increases, Tgobserved by DMTA is increased, which reaches the maximum in10%,respectively, to128℃and133℃. Through the coupling agent glassbead/UHMWPE composite, thermal performance has improved greatly. And using different coupling agents to observe the changes in itsproperties, we find titanate coupling agent treatment is superior inproperties of composites.
