Heat exchangers are widely used in chemical, pharmacy, petroleum, electric power, motive power machine and other process industries. Its performances are crucial to theproducing efficiency, producing stability, maintenance cost and so on.A three-dimensionnumerical simulation on flow and heat transfer in the shellside of the shell-and-tube heatexchanger with single segmental baffles was made by using the FLUENT software. Thenumerical simulation was based on the aniso-tropic porous medium and distributionresistance model. The geometrical model was meshed by TGrid.A k-ε model is applied andthe near wall region was modeled by using the wall function approach. Somesimplification was made in the paper as follows: the fluid flow was steady; the shell wasadiabat; temperature of the tube wall was definite; the heat conduction of baffles and smallclearance flows, for example the flows between heat exchange tubes and baffle plates, were ignored. The distributions of velocity, temperature and pressure were given, with differentinitial velocity, and the particle tracing chart was also presented. In addition, thedistributions of velocity, temperature and pressure of some special faces were given. Finally, the analysis was presented. In addition, the distributions of velocity, temperature, pressure and the particle tracingchart were given, with different number of baffles. It is a significant exploration to the numerical simulation of the heat exchanger.
