"The Eastern Miscellany",an important and comprehensive periodical which wasorganized by the Commercial Press in1904,lasted for nearly45years. It has recordedthe social outlook and historical changes of China in that period. Hu Yuzhi is a famousoutstanding journalist of our country,as the chief editor of the "The EasternMiscellany" in the flourishing period,he played an very positive role in promoting thedevelopment. This paper selects "The Eastern Miscellany" during the1920—1927asthe object of study,compare with the changes in various aspects after Hu Yuzhi as theeditor-in-chief. Such as the purpose of the magazine tend to popularization ofknowledge and promote democracy;the content was enriched,the commentary wasprofound and much more close to the public;the columns were more standardize inform and could be adjusted flexibly according to the current situation. The magazine inthe years1920—1927carried on all kinds of innovative actions under the leadership ofHu Yuzhi,opened up the international news reports,provided a large number of highquality literature in translation,which became distinctive features. Not only won a largegroup of authors and readers but also expanded the advertising revenue and business.The writing process fully combined with the background of the period,focus on theanalysis of special issue and memorial issue,study the journal in all aspects ofinnovation. By summarizing the valuable historical wealth it left,I hope that this studycould provide some reference to the media work at present.
