Optical fiber connector is a device used to Fiber-optic communication. It plays a crucial role for the connective precision. The surface topography and the geometrical parameters of the ferrule end-face are the key factor, which affecting the performance of connector and the stability of fiber optic system. Therefore it is necessary to measure the optical fiber connector. The key geometrical parameters includes 3-D imaging, radius of polishing, apex-offset, fiber height etc and then give a qualitative evaluation. This dissertation is aimed at the new methods and technique for measuring the surface topography of micron level regions to obtain the final processing of the interferometer system. After analyzing various methods used to measure the surface topography of micro-structures, we selected the Michelson type microscope interferometer system, with the Phase-shifting technique to obtain the surface topography.The main works are shown as follow:1. Determine the Michelson type microscope interferometer system which is used in this paper.2. The light sources of the system is analyzed and determined. Get the clear and high contrast fringes.3. Calibrating the magnification of the system.4. Studying a few methods which can identify the parameters of the interferometer system. The results of the parameters can be obtained by the design of the algorithm.5. The reconstruction of the profile is done by the phase shifting interferometry.6. Realizing the synchronization between the PZT and the CCD, completing the restoring of the PZT. which can realize the aim to repeated measurement.7. Realize the purpose of the system's processing through the whole mechanical design.
