Along with the social economy and technology development, high-rise buildings are increasing. Elevator is as a kind of a vertical transportation, whose parameters such as quantity configuration, control configuration, passenger density recogniton and so on directly affect use function of the building and working efficiency of people in the building. So more and more places in public need more humanized, intelligent monitoring equipment. The digital image processing technology is widely used in industry and daily life, using this way for passenger density recognition is more outstanding. Now, using digital image processing technology has become a hot research direction in vertical elevator modern detect and control field.Passenger density of elevator waiting hall has different models in different time. If we can handle statistical rule of passenger density, it's useful to optimize elevator configuration, unify dispatching management and shorten waiting time.In this paper, according to the state of density of passengers flow in the elevator waiting hall and environmental psychology, author puts forward the model of passenger flow density and the theory of center-shortest distance. Author uses digital image processing technology to recognize passenger flow density and designs a system to realize it.The main research contents and some results are listed as follows:(1) Gather background image through camera to build background model. Preprocess background image and current frame image combining with the digital image processing method. Use background difference method to extract fore-image, process and track real-time image.(2) Summarize environment of elevator waiting hall, elevator distribution control and state of waiting passengers. Considering environmental behavior and individual sizes, propose different passenger flow density statistic model in different enviroment.(3) Transmiss data to PC through ZigBee wireless module to make PC define how to control group elevator effectively.
