With the rapid development of Ethernet service, the network self-healing capabilitieshave become increasingly demanding. Spanning Tree Protocol can suppress broadcaststorm, When the network is down,it can ensure that redundant links activated immediatelyand take over the failure primary link, but when the network is normal, redundant link areblocked and ensure the network does not loop,so the network is always like a tree.With the extensive application of802.1Q protocol, as single spanning tree protocol,the spanning tree protocol and rapid spanning tree protocol can complete management ofthe network topology only when the network is symmetric, once the network is asymmetric,due to without the capability of discerning VLAN, it will impact on network connectivityserious. MSTP as the pioneer of the spanning tree protocol family, not only completelysbsorbed the advantages of RSTP fast convergence, but also can realize load balancing andsave communication overhead and resources, at last MSTP as a standard protocol canbackward compatible with STP/RSTP.Chapter1of this thesis, discusses the background of spanning tree protocol and theupgrading process of spanning tree protocol family in the30years. Chapter2of this thesis,through the spannnig tree protocol STP and RSTP comparative analysis, discusses theproblems and shortcoming, and the benefits of MSTP relative to other Multiple SpanningTree Protocol. Chapter3of this thesis, analysis of MSTP principles,including MSTP ishow to combine the VLAN and spanning tree protocol, the improvement of BPDU and thedetailed process of multiple spanning trees established. Chapter4of this thesis, Based onthe IEEE802.1s, detailed analysis of the advance of the MSTP state machine, discuss thesupport of MAVELL88E6095for MSTP in hardware and configuration process forMAVELL88E6095. Chapter5of this thesis, make MSTP module on the test network byEthernet packet capture analysis, to determine whether the normal operation of theprotocol module. Chapter6of this thesis, make a summary of the full thesis and the prospects for follow-up.My work includes study IEEE802.1d and IEEE802.1s agreement,analysis of thespanning tree protocol family development process,based on the principle ofMSTP,analysis of the process of MSTP state machine to promote,and code software MSTPfunction module,then through the configuration MAVELL88E6095MSTP function inhardware,and finally make MSTP module on the test network by Ethernet packet captureanalysis, to determine whether the normal operation of the protocol module.
