Library is a collection of information and services institution. With the develop of informatization and networking, library must change its traditional closed service mode to an open and digitalized service mode by network technology to achieve the goal of knowing each other ,corporation with each other and sharing information resource. Union catalog system is an essential tool describing the collections of a number of libraries. It's crucial for all library consortiums to build up the union catalog. Because of lacking unified criterion, every library consortium has to achieve union catalog using their specific technology or criterion, and this results in the isolation of different union catalog objectively, it is hard to communicate between the different domestic union catalog systems now, thus it hinders the data sharing afterwards. To solve problems above, this dissertation adopts current international universal interactive manipulation protocol OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) to construct union catalog systems by analyzing and studying OAI-PMH .The main content include:1. Studying the current situation of Jiangsu academic universities, based on the automatic information service system of member libraries, this dissertation introduces an international universal interoperability protocol--OAI-PMH to design and implement an union catalog under the framework of OAI-PMH. This system consists of data harvesting control model which deploying in the central server and OAI-PMH client model in each member libraries, the two models completes the harvesting and synchronization of bibliographical metadata collaboratively. The harvesting control model is in charge of job scheduling and executing, the post-processing process and storage of bibliographic metadata. The OAI-PMH client side responses the OAI request to ingest the bibliographic data in specified range then provides an XML file with a specific format.2. The MARC format of ISO2709 is the prevalent metadata standard of bibliographical information now, but the transmission standard is XML in OAI-PMH, it is necessary to convert Marc to XML each other in the course of bibliographic data harvesting and storage. This dissertation indicates the conversion regulation by analyzing these two formats thoroughly.3. The customer can't search efficiently with arbitrary words in the retrieval service providing by traditional union catalog which used to be based on the specific keywords. In view of this problem, the dissertation applies for utilizing the open Lucene search engine package to establish Lucene index file for bibliographic data and to achieve full-text retrieval based on it, thus it can provide users a high-performance experience of arbitrary words retrieval. The dissertation designs and implements a union catalog system on the basis of adopting current international universal standard and criterion, this system is easy to explant and extend for its reasonable structure and universal property comparing to the current union catalog system. It is a whole new attempt to the union catalog system, and this system provides theoretical reference and enablement measures to the design and development of congeneric union catalog system.
