As a new light source, LED light source is the research focus of the projection display devices. DLP technology could achieve higher contrast, high stability and reproduce color more accurately. It has become the mainstream in the field of micro-display. According to the theory of DLP projector and LED features, we designed and debugged the LED's driving circuit, controlling and protection circuits. FPGA was used to achieve digital signal processing innovatively. We used the Verilog programming and the Modelsim simulation testing. The main works of this paper are as following:First, this paper introduces projection display technology. Compared to LCD and LCOS, we found the advantages of DLP. We introduced the advantages and disadvantages of traditional UHP lamp and the LED light source. We pointed out the status and trends of projector displays.Next, comparing with the two PWM controls, we chose the PWM current control mode. According to the characteristics of LED (high-power, high brightness), we designed the driving circuit which was based on MAX16818. In order to make the LED working in the normal state, we designed the LED detection and protection circuit. We designed Controlling system for led based on FPGA.Then, according to the characteristics of SPI, we achieved interface control and timing analysis. In this paper, as a controlled side of SPI, FPGA is used to communicate the front and rear driving circuit. It could complete the timing lighting of three-color LED.At last, we concluded the works of this paper, and proposed the works to be studied.
