With the increasing complexity of the enterprise business process and the scale of participants, the logical relationships between each business become more complex. It is necessary to set up a process model which descripts the complex business process information, and to manage the business process effectively by using workflow management. Workflow technology is important to achieve the automation and restructuring of enterprises. The process modeling is the foundation of workflow management and the foundation of a process model lies in its structural specifications. So a structure verification method is needed to analysis a complex process model, find out whether there is any conflict and compromise the correct execution of workflow. The conflicts in process model should be resolved by proposing conflict resolution schemes for users.This thesis is mainly about the conflict resolution, to find out the conflicts of a process model and generate resolutions. As a result, the business process can be ensured while running it. Firstly, a process modeling method based on UML activity graph is presented. Its elements are expanded, so it can be fit for complex process modeling. Secondly, a conflict detection method based on UML activity diagram reduction is presented. The method can deal with circulation, overlapping structure of complex process model, and can realize three typical structure conflicts, e.g. deadlock, lack of synchronization and infinite cycles. Besides, a conflict resolution scheme is presented according to the structure conflicts. It is supposed to give any useful suggestion for process modeling staff to handle conflicts. Finally, a conflict resolution tool is designed and implemented in the business process modeling of Magic platform and an application case shows that the conflicts detection and resolution method is effective. It is proved that the conflict resolution is a convenient and efficient way to reduce the complexity of structure verification and improve the efficiency of conflict treatment.
