Today as electronic devices run faster, they become more sophisticated in functions and more intelligent. It is quite usual to see digital circuits running in sub-nano seconds. Signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design of high-speed PCBs is the key to successful launch of electronic products. With the development of digital medical devices, signal integrity and EMC design of PCBs in high-speed broadband digital circuits have a wider application in PCB design of medical devices. In PCB design, taking full consideration on signal integrity analysis and EMC, and using the appropriate design to ensure signal transmission properly is one of the key techniques. This paper describes definition of EMC, basic factors in electromagnetic environment, as well as definition and principle of signal integrity. Based on the mechanism that reflection and crosstalk occur, the factors affecting system EMC and signal integrity are analyzed. In the subsequent theoretical analysis, it goes to issues to be noted on integrity of high-speed signals in medical device PCB design, which falls into 3 phases: preliminary design preparation, in-process layout, and PCB layout. In PCB design of medical devices, EMC and signal integrity are well considered. The solution to signal crosstalk is one of the crucial elements to successful design. In previous PCB design practice, engineers used to design according to some basics such as PCB EMC design and signal integrity analysis, and then perform test and analysis on the finished PCBs. EMI and signal crosstalk were fixed only if they had been found, without any other shortcut solution. To address this issue, the creative application of SPECCTRAQuest/SigXplore combined with part IBIS model is a simulated approach to medical device PCB design, which is a change and improvement of PCB design, so as to improve EMC and signal integrity of PCB design. The actual PCB test shall verify the rationality of such simulation.
