The cupped gyroscope is a new vibrating inertial sensor,which senses the angular rate based on the inertia effect of the elastic wave in the cupped resonator. The cupped gyroscopes have high operation accuracy, low cost, good shock, vibration resistance and longevity and so on. The metallic resonator is the core element of the cupped gyroscope. The performances of the cupped gyroscope are closely connected with the metallic resonator's vibration characteristics, drive characteristics and frequency characteristics. so, it's necessary to study the resonator. In this dissertation, the researches about the metallic resonator are shown as follows:1. The structure and working principle of the cupped gyroscope are introduced, and the mathematical model of the resonator is built.2. A finite element model of base– layer– piezoelectric laminate film is established, the model is simulated and analyzed by Ansys, and the analysis is tested by experiments. The Q-factor ,output gain and frequency of cleavage of resonator which are effected by the thickness of adhesive layer, material properties and defects in adhesive layer were detailedly analyzed.3. The effect of piezoelectric electrode to the cupped resonator is analyzed. Through modeling analyzed and experimental validated, the paper mainly research the frequency characteristics of the piezoelectric electrode, current characteristics, amplitude characteristics in the whole temperature, and the effect of piezoelectric electrode to the frequency characteristics and the Q-factor of the resonator.4. The finite element model and modal analysis of the imperfect cupped resonator are built. From the models: it is known that the resonator fabrication errors of the cupped gyroscope lead to the splitting of natural frequency and the offset of mode, which is the main quadrature error source of the gyroscope, therefore, the mechanical balance of the resonator is the key process to improve the performance of the gyro.5. About the mechanical balance of the resonator, a precision balance method based on cup-wall figuring for cupped gyroscope is given. And natural frequency sensitivity to trimming position is analyzed. From the finite element model of the imperfect cupped resonator,simulated the process of the modification. At last, the model is verified on the metallic resonator, the frequency split of the resonator is reduced to 0.1Hz, which is achieved the purpose of the modification.
