Research On The Antenna Selection Algorithm In MIMO Communication System

Currently, high-speed wireless access to the network is increasingly demanded since the development of wireless communication makes the service forms diverse. However, high data rate greatly challenges the finite spectrum resources, which calls for higher spectral utilizing efficiency. For this reason, MIMO became a popular area in modern communication technology. MIMO is known as multiple input and multiple output technology with multiple output antennas at the transmitter and both at the receiver. With some packet coding technology, MIMO can bring diversity gain and multiplexing gain to the communication system which resulting in great improvement in spectral utilizing efficiency and satisfying people's demand. However, multiple antennas bring higher cost to MIMO system. To balance the cost and system performance, the antenna selection technology which reduces the cost and hardware complexity is chosen, though system performance is sacrificed a little.This paper firstly introduces the MIMO system model and related theories. Secondly we analyze the impact that antenna selection technology brings to the MIMO system performance. Thirdly we prove that the diversity gain of the system will not decrease when using antenna selection technology. Fourthly, several antenna selection technologies are introduced and several antenna selection algorithms are simulated to compare their performance.Finally, we provide a improved antenna selection algorithm, which is a incremental algorithm based on row correlation. We select the rows which have bigger rank to attain better performance of channel capacity. In terms of telling how we get this algorithm and simulated comparison with other commonly used algorithms, we verify the low complexity and satisfying performance of this algorithm.
