Metaphor has been a kind of the rhetorical methods in traditional linguistics area.Metaphor is the imagination beyonds the similarity of characteristics and attributes of twoobjects, and also a kind of thinking phenomenon which the characteristics and attributes aremapped from the source area to the target area. Metaphor is a method which old experiences areused to replace new ones,it also evokes more similar memory, emotion and resonance to theviewers in using of the product and its context.Nowadays,metaphor is becoming an importantmodeling method and is widely used in area of product design.The goal of this paper is to probe the method of metaphor in consumer electronic productdesign.First, by discussing the basic research of metaphor and exploring the definition,nature,causes and characteristics of metaphor, in order to grasp the nature of the metaphor better whenusing metaphor during the designing course, and also provide theoretical basis for the generalframework for metaphor used in product design.On the basis of it,we bring metaphor intoproduct design research and construct train of thoughts which metaphor used in productdesign.Then analyse consumer electronics products in detail to get in-depth exploration onmetaphor approach used in consumer electronics product design.Metaphor can be seen asarising due to the transfer of similar images, design can also be seen as a behavior of creating asort of specific image in the light of realizing the product material function.so the focus of thispaper is to summarize the imagery techniques which metaphor used in the design of consumerelectronics products,that based on a large number of typical case analysis which apply metaphorto the consumer electronics products design,and to provide solvable ideas for the key stepwhich metaphor is used in, and thereby improve the overall process of metaphor in consumerelectronics products design.The paper also tests and verifies the rationality and feasibility of the method by finishingdesign practice of two products.according to the process summarized ahead, I expect this paperto play reference and guidance role in related research of the field of personnel and designerswho are engaged in consumer electronics products design.
