The Research And Design Of Storage Virtualization System Based On Out-of-Band Technology

Storage virtualization technology is an important part of storage system. This technology hides the physical feature of storage systems in each layer of SAN such as application server, storage nodes and network devices. The virtualization technology makes the storage in an abstract situation and independ of the storage system or subsystem. Storage virtualization only retains unified logical properties of storage device; therefore, it provides unified and centralized storage resource pool in order to achieve unified and easy management.This paper researches and analyzes traditional storage architecture and protocols and focus on the requirement of modern storage systems such as share storage, dynamic space allocation, and storage I/O scheduling and so on. Furthermore, this paper provides an in-depth research on storage virtualization technology which is based on Virtual address and Physical address dynamic transform Table. With SNIA Shared Storage Model, the paper discuss in detail of the storage virtualization technology on there layers such as server, network and storage. The comparation between in-band control and out-of-band control proves that out-of-band technology is a better way to optimization and load balancing.To improve the performance of storage system, this paper specifies the design of out-of-band storage architecture, especially the design of storage control server group. Furthermore, it illustrates the realization of the storage virtualization system based on out-of-band including space virtualization and performance virtualization.In addition, this paper discusses the data protection of storage virtualization systems, such as Continuous Data Protection technologies. Finally, a performance testing verifies that the storage virtualization system based on out-of-band technology is a high performance and flexiable scale-out storage system. The achievement and significance of the research lies in that the storage network between application servers and storage devices incorporates out-of-band storage control server group, improving the storage system's capacity and availability through load balance of out-of-band storage control server group and storage nodes and optimizing the design of out-of-band virtualization storage. It enhances data protection and meets high-level requirements for data protection with storage virtualization based data protection technology. The tests and analyses of out-of-band technology have proven its high performance and reduction of physical storage resources and costs and its ability to maximize investment returns.
