As a mainstream display terminal in the 21st century, Flat-panel LCD, developing steady and rapidly, has a broad market prospect and huge profit margins. To meet the demand of the market, LCD portable and energy-saving, this paper designs an edge-lit Back Light Unit (BLU) of dual-panel display. Both faces of this dual-emitting Light Guide Plate (LGP) can radiate rays simultaneously, so LGP can provide backlight for two LCD at the same time. It has a good application prospect, not only on the personal electronic equipment but also in public facilities. This paper mainly describes how to design and make this dual-emitting LGP.1. Base on the theory of radiometry and photometry, this paper analyzes how the LGP guides light, and obtains LGP's dot density distribution functions via the Mathematics Model. The results show the dot density is small near the source and big in the distance of source.2. Combined with the practical design of edge-lit BLU, it should emphasize on LED's appearance and size, luminous intensity, angle and chromaticity when choosing LED. Due to the dark field easily appearing near the source, this paper theoretically advances a method to optimize the space between LEDs, and improves BLU's uniformity by changing LGP's side structure.3. According to analyzing the process of the light from LED to the LGP, we get a best ratio about LED's package, which can describe the position of the chip in reflector. This theory can improve the efficiency of the light from LEDs.4. First, producing 2D dot files by software, such as Pattern Editor, AutoCAD and so on. Second, making dots on the module by Laser engraver machines. At last, obtaining dual-emitting LGP samples by injection molding. LGP rays'second assignment carries out by specific optics film.5. Testing and analyzing samples by using testing equipments such as BM-7. The results show the uniformity of this dual-emitting LGP samples'two faces almost unanimous, up to 86%, but the average brightness of two faces still have some discrepancy.This paper is helpful for the development of dual-panel display.
