From 1980s, the communication between countries becomes very often, and the English teaching in our country is regarded as a very important thing because China has been in a fast-developing period. Many people work at English Teaching deeply, so a lot of English teaching styles have emerged and a hundred schools of thoughts contend. Compared with them, the traditional teaching methods seem out of style. For this reason, the new English teaching methods and strategies have a great impact on the traditional English teaching methods, especially the communicative language teaching approach, the cooperative language teaching approach and the multi-media teaching instruction, which are recommended in the Curriculum Revolution, are pervasively accept by most people. Hence, the traditional teaching methods, such as the Oral Approach, the Audio-lingual Method, the Silent Way and the Recitation, are left out in the cold or even get deserted. At the moment that most people are chasing the new teaching methods, I wonder if the traditional teaching methods are still meaningful and helpful to the English learning. As we all know, because of the lack of English learning environment, English teaching is still very difficult. Students'interest need to be open out. Owing to the lack of language input, high school students'English is not satisfying. Recently, we are trying to find a new way to make up it so as to strengthen the input and make English learning easier. When we look back and think over it, we already have a method. Recitation is a great way to improve the language input. This paper is to prove that recitation is not out of style, although it is very old. It is very helpful for high school students to learn English. This paper is based on the Second Language Acquisition theory and the Cognitive Psychology theory. Through a teaching experiment and an interview, we learn that how the recitation helps with English learning. After the research, we find that recitation can add more input to the students and make them have a strong sense of English. What's more, recitation also helps students to think in an English way, which is very good to English learning. This paper is divided in five parts. The first part talks about the background of the research, the purpose and the content. After analyzing the situation of high school students'English learning, I point out that recitation is useful. In the second part, I consult a lot of information and talk about the quiddity and function of recitation. Besides, I talk about the factors that affect recitation and some theories that this paper based on. In the third part, I choose two classes to start my research. I lay down the processes of the research and make four topics about recitation. In the fourth part, I put together the data that I get from the research and analyze them. Otherwise, I collect what the students have said about recitation and analyze the result. In the last part, I summarize the results and give advice to the after research.
