The classical chinese stories "Qing Suo Gao Yi", compiled by Liu fu in thenorthern Song Dynasty (960-1127BC) accumulates the most outstandinglegendary novels in the Song Dynasty. These excellent works not only reflect thesocial context and culture spirit, but also show a faithful picture of all kinds ofcustom and life in that time especially in the northern Song Dynasty. It describesa lot of stylish characters and deliver the authors' thoughts and artcharacteristics, which express us profound cultural connotation. Therefore thispaper intends to reveal the general situation and characteristics of the SongLegend, aimed at the48pieces of novels in the collection work "Qing Suo GaoYi" from the above three aspects. Furthermore this essay try to seek into theunique culture connotation behind the texts and demonstrates the people tofurther understand the Song Legend as well as the dynasty and the culture inSong Dynasty.This paper mainly explains from the following aspects:Firstly, Song Legend creates a group of different roles. The first charpter willemphasis on the character image, including male and female images. It willanalysis the reasons of the appearance of these characters including the culturalbackground.Secondly, Song Legend inherits from previous traditional themes in TangDynasty including "history the rise and fall" and romance; on the other hand, italso evolves some new changes, for example "sexual injuries"and religiousthemes.Last, the art characteristics of Song Legend come toward a new direction.The third chapter will demonstrate the characterization, narrative structure andaesthetic feeling of the Song legend and take these art features to seek therelated cultural connotation.
