To begin the rhetorical analysis of this text, this paper has selected three key words from the novel White rose, red rose as follows:"Rose", "Red rose" and "White rose".The meaning of "Rose" in the context has been away from its traditional dictionary definition to a rhetorical one. Besides, as a symbol of women, "Rose" contains several female roles and two of them are underlay for others behind.In the former part of the text, "Red rose" and "White rose" represent two kinds of lifestyle of women and each one consist of three roles in the novel. Among them, "Wang-Jiaorui" and "Meng-Yanli" are most important roles who stand for rhetorical cognition for women from men. While in the latter part, "Wang" and "Meng" has changed their social identity, rhetorical description and semanteme. Through this critical conversion, the relater had shown us a special phenomenon that women attempt to change their dilemma in relationship, and also they want to share the power of discourse.On the basis of theory of General Rhetoric, this paper applied a progressive order to complete the analysis of this text. It is hoped that more rhetorical study of Red rose, white rose will come to us.
