Background:Since the reform and opening up, with the rapid development of market economy, the size of the cities continues to expand and a large number of surplus rural migrants come to the cities, which produce all kinds of Floating Population. A prominent issue in China to accelerate the process of urbanization is the housing problem of the floating population. China's current health care has reached a higher level in developing countries, but health equity in the world ranked the fourth from the bottom. inequitable health service provision inevitably leads to unfair utilization of health care services. The basic health needs of floating population cannot be effectively met. Community health care is the basis of public health and the health care system, The existence of a large number of floating population, has brought great challenges to the community health care system. How to give full play to the role of community health care agencies to provide appropriate health care services for migrants is a very important subject that worth study. Objective:By surveying the health service needs of the residents (including both local villagers and the migrants) in Y village of Fuhai Street Community in Kunming City and investigation of community health care provision we tried to analyze the role of community health care services in meeting those needs, its problems and the potential for improvement. We also planned to survey the needs for and utilization of health services by local villagers and migrants who living in the same village so as to understand their accessibility to community health care services and to identify the difference between the two kinds of residents aiming at providing scientific evidence to improve community health care service.. Methods:Using case study approach, we conducted literature review, existing data collection and analysis, in-depth interviews and questionnaire survey in the selected village. Results:The findings revealed that the contribution of the urban villages on the city's economic development cannot be ignored and the composition of residents in urban villages is complex due to the special social structure, which cause various forms and types of health problems. Residents in urban villages coming from different places with different socioeconomic status and thus their needs for, demands for and utilization of health care services are complex and diverse. Migrants have access to health care service, but there is still a gap compared with the local population. The self-reported disease prevalence of the surveyed populations in the last two-weeks prior to the survey was41.5%o and the health care service utilization rate was43.0‰.Chronic disease prevalence rate was24.8%o and the hospitalization rate was45.9‰. Significant differences were found in the two-week disease prevalence rate, chronic disease prevalence rate and the hospitalization rate between local residents and rural migrants, but there is no significant difference between the health care service utilization rates of the two types of population.. The survey found out that: First, pharmacies, private clinics and community health service centers, and hospitals provide health care services for the residents of the urban village. Second, the future needs for health care service of urban village residents will be increased given the poor living conditions of migrants, but the demand for and use of health care service may be showing a downward trend. Third, the current services of community health service centers cannot meet the needs of the residents in urban village; fourth, urban villages pose a big challenge for the prevention and control of infectious diseases; fifth, the fairness of community health care services is not enough; finally, the dismantle of urban villages cannot solve the health care problem of the floating population.
