Chemical constituents of most Eucalyptus plants are mainly composed of mono-, sesqui-, and triterpenoids as well as lipophilic aromatic compounds. Many compounds from Eucalyptus exhibit interesting organoleptic, pharmacological or other biological activities. Therefore, the chemical investigation of Eucalyptus has gained much attention over the last decades. In this paper, the fruits of Eucalyptus globulus Labill., which were collected in Mount Jinggang, China, were chemically investigated. Twenty compounds were isolated from EtOAc and n-butanol portions of the 95% ethanolic extract of the fruit of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. To date, the structures of sixteen compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including one flavone 5-hydroxyl-4',7-dimethoxy-6,8-dimethyflavone (1) and eight pentacyclic triterpenes: ursolic acid (2),2a,3a-isopropylidenedioxy-lup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid (3), betulinic acid (4), betulonic acid (5),3β-hydroxyurs-11-en-28,13-olide (6),3β-formyloxyurs-11-en-28,13-olide (7), betulin (8), and 2a-hydroxybetulinic acid (9), together with seven other types of compoundsβ-sitosterol (10), daucosterine (11), piceatannol (12), blumenol A (13), gallic acid (14), stearic acid (15), and syringaresinol (16) Compounds 1,3,7,8,12 and 16 were isolated from this plant for the first time while compounds 3,12 and 16 were isolated from genus Eucalyptus for the first time. Inhibitory activities of compounds 2-5,12, and 14 against human K562 and MCF-7 cell lines were evaluated.
