This research is meant for a survey of the drug-related staff' acquaintance with the adverse drug reaction and drug safety so as to provide useful reference for the supervision of drug safety in our city. This study has designed both interview questions and questionnaires, and provided examiners with both trainings and trial survey. In this study, subjects, chosen through a ranked sampling, are asked to fill in the questionnaires. By the EpiData 3.1 recording system, their answers in questionnaires are then double-track recorded and checked for a comparison by variance analysis and chi-square test with the assistance of SPSS 3.0 and SAS 9.1.In 6701 questionnaires distributed,5487 were valid returns and out of these,5474 were taken for data analysis, occupying 81.69 of the total. Data analysis show that subjects have a high degree of acquaintance with the adverse drug reaction, with up to 97.11% of questions answered correctly and their time of learning averaged in April of 1995. Most of them have access to the basic knowledge of it through either in-school education or relevant training, taking up 45.3% and 44.2% respectively. However, drug-related stuff in our city have a rather low degree of acquaintance with the drug warnings, with their correct answers scoring only 47.63.Moreover, most of them obtain some knowledge through relevant training or special magazines. Those who gave right answers to questions on the meanings of these warnings take up only 58.6%, and those who know and retell the meanings of warnings occupy only 28%. Of all subjects,98.62% believe there is a need to report the adverse drug reactions while 95.92% think that only serious drug adverse reactions deserve a report and 92.71% suggest that report should be about reactions to new medicine.85.9% report they know there is an adverse drug reaction report system in China and 42.99% propose that the drug supervision network should be extended to cover the grassroots villages. Regarding the proper use of drugs, there is a high degree of acquaintance. For instance,94.67% report to have the habit of going to hospital once they fall sick and 84.92 would take medicine in accordance with the prescription. In cases when drugs have no or less obvious effects, those who choose to see the doctor total 85.5%. In cases when drugs have produced an adverse drug reaction in them,83.2% like to consult the doctor and only 29.8% would report it to the drug administration and supervision organs. Most people in this research seek for drug safety information by reading either drug instructions or specialized journals, taking up 78.63% and 72.51% respectively. Most trust the safety information released in the website or magazines by the provincial-level administration and supervision organs on adverse drug reactionRegarding the Monitoring Information on Adverse Drug Reaction, up to 60% of subjects hold that all information should be released publicly, and 77.6% hope that it should cover report on typical medical cases; of all who report to have read it, more are from drug administration and supervision institutions than from medical institutions or manufacturing organs. In terms of their scores, those from the drug administration and supervision organs top the list by an average of 10.11 plus 2.793. with those from the retailers or manufacturers at the bottom by 8.78 plus 2.766. In terms of the areas, what scores the highest is the Tinghu Area,9.63 plus 2.732. and what comes the last is the Xiangshui Area with its score at 8.84 plus 2.951. This result is almost consistent with the above comparison. A single-factor analysis shows that factors like subjects' institution type, area, total employment length, time of employment on current position, education level, job title have an impact on their acquaintance with the drug safety while their gender and age don't at all. A multi-factor analysis shows that statistically, there is a high correlation between factors like institution type, area, education level and job title and the subjects' degree of acquaintance, while there is no correlation at all between the total employment length and time of employment in current position and subjects' acquaintance. The drug-related staff in our city has shown a high degree of acquaintance with the basic knowledge of adverse drug reaction, the supervision of it as well as the importance of proper use of drugs, but a rather low degree of acquaintance with the drug safety, in particular, the drug warnings. Besides, there is variation between subjects in accordance with the area, institution type and specific positions they are from. This roughly conforms to what the Administration and Supervision on Adverse Drug Reaction in the Province has found. To improve an awareness of the importance of the adverse drug reaction reporting. more efforts need to be invested on trainings to the drug manufacturers and drug-related staff in the under-developed areas, and more work should be done on the training and education of people like the medical staff, who are in direct contact with patients, and of the salespersons in drug enterprises and outlets, so as to ultimately promote a steady and speedy development in the supervision work on adverse drug reaction.
