ObjectiveWe study the relative of the age and the carotid intima-media thickness for every ranges of healthy person, for the purpose to get normal ranges of the carotid intima-media thickness, provides a theory evidence for vascular age and early atherosclerosis.MethodsInvestigate people who come to Affiliated Hospital of Taishan Medical College to have an healthy check-up, and students who read in this school, from January 2010 to January 2011.Select the ones who have no hypertension, no diabetes, no dyslipidemia, and other disease such heart, liver, kidney, endocrine diseases, about 1037 were enrolled in this study, they were divided into 6 groups by age:21 to 30 years old, 31 to 40 years,41 to 50 years, 51 to 60 years, 61 to 70 years, and 71 to 80 years old. And collect the patients who have been diagnosed as ischemic cerebrovascular disease or cerebral hemorrhage, match with the normal ones in age, sex and the race. Because there is little patients who have ischemic cerebrovascular disease under 30 years old, so exclude this group, divided the left 337 patients into 5 group as the normal ones. There are 35 patients who have cerebral hemorrhage. All of subjects were checked by GE VIVID 7 PRO U.S. Color Doppler Ultrasonic Diagnostic Equipment, record some related indexes of carotid atherosclerosis, such as IMT, plaques, et al. The dates was statistically analyzed with SPSS 13.0 software, statistics the common carotid IMT, compare the normal ones and ischemic cerebrovascular ones about the IMT and plagues, and compare the IMT among the three groups, P<0.05 for significant difference in the level of the test.Results1. The left and right mean common carotid IMT in experimental group are: the age from 21 to 30 is (0.597±0.0919)mm, (0.597±0.0813)mm; the age from 31 to 40 is (0.704±0.0909)mm, (0.704±0.0900)mm; the age from 41 to 50 is (0.730±0.0865)mm, (0.733±0.0862)mm; the age from 51 to 60 is (0.738±0.0968)mm, (0.736±0.0982)mm; the age from 61 to 70 is (0.773±0.0801)mm, (0.773±0.0792)mm; and the age from 71 to 80 is(0.793±0.0773)mm, (0.802±0.0764)mm. There is no significantly differences between group 3 and group 4, between group 5 and group 6, every two groups compared with each other all have significantly differences(P<0.01).2. The 95% CI of the left and right common carotid IMT in experimental groups are as follows: the age from 21 to 30 is (0.582,0.612)mm, (0.584,0.611)mm; the age from 31 to 40 is (0.691,0.716)mm, (0.692,0.717)mm; the age from 41 to 50 is (0.719,0.741)mm, (0.722,0.743)mm; the age from 51 to 60 is (0.724,0.752)mm, (0.722,0.752)mm; the age from 61 to 70 is (0.759,0.786)mm, (0.760,0.786)mm; and the age from 71 to 80 is (0.779, 0.807) mm, (0.788,0.816)mm.3. The coefficient correlation r between left/right common carotid IMT and age is 0.517/0.528, both P<0.01, this account that there is a linear positive correlation between the common carotid IMT and age.4. At the same group, there is significantly differences between the experimental and control groups.5. In the normal group: the all plagues incidence is 20.2%, the hard plague is 56.9%, weak plague is 17.2%, and mixed plagues is 25.9%; in the control group: the all plagues incidence is 57.9%, the hard plague is 30.8%, weak plague is 45.6%, and mixed plagues is 23.6%. The incidence of all plagues, weak plague and mixed plagues in ischemic cerebrovascular disease group are higher than in the normal group, but the incidence of the hard plague is just different.6. IMT in ischemic cerebrovascular disease group and cerebral hemorrhage ones are both thicker than the normal ones, and there is significantly differences(P<0.05); IMT in ischemic cerebrovascular disease group is thicker than cerebral hemorrhage ones, but there is no significantly differences(P>0.05)Conclusion1. The common carotid IMT is positively correlated with the age, IMT can be an important index of vascular age.2. The normal ones can also diagnosed plagues, and as the age increase, the incidence of the plagues increases too.3. The IMT of the normal ones is thinner than the ones who have ischemic cerebrovascular disease or cerebral hemorrhage. The normal ones plagues most are hard plagues, and the ones who have ischemic cerebrovascular disease most are weak plagues.
