| BackgroundAIDS has spread all over the world, and become one of the most important public health and social problems. AIDS threatens both the health of human and the development of society. Nowadays sex transmission has become the main route of AIDS transmission. The population of female sex workers (FSW) plays a very important role in the transmission of AIDS. Publicity and intervention of AIDS among FSW could be effective strategies to prevent AIDS spreading from them to general population. FSW are called hidden population. Respondent-driven Sampling (RDS) is used as a sampling method in this population.Objectives1 To understand FSW's demography characteristics in Jinan city and provide baseline data for future study2 To explore the correlative factors of FSW's high-risk behaviors, and obtain effective intervention measuresMethods1 Respondent-driven sampling:the recruitment began with 10-20 seeds and the types of seeds should be various; three cards were given to each seed to recruit three peers. Then the recruited FSW recruited others, and so on. Each card was labeled by a letter and some figures.2 Data was collected through questionnaire including demography characteristics, STD of them, sex behaviors, condom using, consciousness of AIDS, intervention in the past, etc.3 Informed consent ran through the whole process of the investigation, and the questionnaires were reviewed by specialized workers.Results1 General description In terms of demographical characteristics, most of them were between 17-35; more than a half of them were married; and most of them had only accepted junior education. They didn't have much knowledge about AIDS, and they mainly accepted AIDS knowledge from TV and broadcast programmes. About the question of'how to use the condoms properly', only 40.0% mastered four or five steps properly.77.8% of the FSW chose STD out-patient service in approved hospitals;1the average age of the first commercial sex was (26.56±2.55).81.2% of the FSW had fix sex partners.13.9% of them admitted drug using, and 0.9% injection drug using.19.5% of FSW had accepted HIV testing before. VCT rate in FSW was 25.2%.2 Correlation analysis of indicators2.1 There is a relationship between drug using behavior and the factors of martial status(x2=7.938, P<0.05)and whether to take anti-inflammatory drugs(x2=4.696, P<0.05).2.2 Multivariate unconditional logistic analysis shows that knowledge about AIDS, risk consciousness of AIDS, marital status, and working years are primary influence factors of the health seeking behavior(P<0.05).2.3 Multivariate unconditional logistic analysis shows that the primary influence factors are whether they have accepted publicity materials, HIV testing, and peer education(P<0.05).Conclusions1 FSW are sensitive population of AIDS, and play an important role in AIDS transmission. Then we should pay much attention to them. 2 FSW don't have much knowledge about AIDS, thus publicity and education of AIDS and STD should be strengthened among them. It may be very useful in AIDS control and prevention.3 Univariate analysis shows that only two factors have significant difference in drug using behavior analysis, so multivariate analysis is not continued for factors are not enough. We may discuss other influence factors in future study.4 FSW's health-seeking behavior is correlated with working years, martial status, knowledge about AIDS, risk consciousness of AIDS. Publicity and education of AIDS should be strengthened among those who are married, who have little knowledge and little consciousness of AIDS and the ones who have engaged in this job for rather a long time.5 To provide materials about AIDS and encourage peer education could promote FSW's voluntary counseling and testing of AIDS. |
