Objective:To analysis the Clinical significance of human papillomavirus(HPV) testing for detection of high-grade cervical lesions in women with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Methods:A retrospective study was carried out on ASCUS patients diagnosed by liquid based cytology test and TBS(the Bethesda System) classification admitted to our hospital from October 2007 to October 2010, in which 520 cases all subjects were examined by HPV DNA testing and Colposcopy-directed biopsy. Results:1.In the 520 cases of ASC-US,histological examination proved that there were 334cases of chronic cervicitis(64.23%),122cases of CIN I 122(23.46%),30cases of CINâ…¡(5.77%),30 cases of CINâ…¢(5.77%),4 cases of invasive cervical carcinoma(0.77%).2. Among 520 cases,220 cases were HPV DNA positive with a rate of 42.30%(220/520). The HPV DNA infection rates of chronic cervicitis,CIN I,CINâ…¡,CINâ…¢,invasive cervical carcinoma were 23.65%,72.95%,73.33%,86.66%,100%respectively, The incidence of CINâ…¡-CINâ…¢and invasive cervical carcinoma for the group of HPV positive was 23.63%(52/220),while the proportion for HPV negative was 4%(12/ 300).The discrepancy was statistically significant (P<0.05).4.Among the all 520 ASC-US patients there were 270 Han,210 Uygur and 40 other nationality cases, There was no significant differences the incidence rate of different stage cervical lesions in different nationality(p>0.05).Conclusions:Minimally abnormal Pap smears ASC-US reveal histologic findings ranging from normal to invasive carcinoma, HPV test is useful for predicting the severity of lesions of the uterine cervix, so a viable option in the management of women with ASC-US.
