Pneumatic conveying is a kind of method that conveys solid particles through a pipeline by means of definite pressure and velocity of air or other gas. For the process of pneumatic conveying, the principle that makes use of resources, reduce energy wasting and environment pollution is considered. So different industries pay more attention to pneumatic conveying, and it has a wide range of applications. This article reviews the development of pneumatic conveying, sets up the mathematical models of gas-solid two-phase flows about vertical, horizontal and elbow pipelines commonly used in carbon black pneumatic conveying, and with the software FLUENT to explain the carbon black flow when pneumatic conveying. Via the model, the interaction between gas-solid, collision between carbon black particles and the interaction between carbon black particles and wall are considered. In different conveying conditions, the carbon black particles'flow in vertical, horizontal and elbow pipelines pneumatic conveying is simulated.First of all, the gas-solid two-phase flows in vertical carbon black pneumatic conveying pipe are simulated by means of two-dimensional model. The factors that affect the concentration of carbon black being uneven distribution along the radial are analyzed, the various parameters that affect vertical carbon black pneumatic conveying are studied systemically, and the results of the gas-solid velocity distribution, the concentration distribution and the best economic velocity under a variety of throughput are obtained. Secondly, the gas-solid two-phase flow in horizontal and elbow carbon black pneumatic conveying pipe are simulated by means of three-dimensional model, and the results of the gas-solid velocity distribution, the concentration distribution and the best economic velocity under a variety of throughput are obtained. The effect of R/r ratio to elbow pipe is also studied when simulating the elbow pipe. The experimental data acquired from the designed carbon black pneumatic conveying experiment, are compared with the simulation results, a good consistency and accuracy is found. In the end, this paper summarizes the work doing, points out the shortcomings and proposes the further study work about gas-solid two-phase flow in carbon black pneumatic conveying.
