The sonar waveform design is an important part for the design of active sonar system, which affects both the sonar performance and signal processing techniques. In this thesis, comb-spectrum and channel adaptive algorithm cooperate to improve the performance of active sonar by waveform design.The resolution of basic waveforms is analyzed based on the ambiguity function and Q function, and found that they can't have both range and Doppler accuracy. The comb-spectrum pulse which is a class of wideband Doppler sensitive waveform is proposed to solve this problem. The waveform performance of detection and reverberation processing are theoretical tested including SFM pulse, PTFM pulse and COSTAS pulse.In trail section, a sonar waveform generator program based on Lab VIEW is compiled, which has convenient UI and powerful function. The acquired data are processed by time-frequency analysis, matched filter and power spectrum analyze. The results are in agreement with theoretical predictions.To make the waveform adaptive to the channel, two waveform design techniques are proposed. Initiative study is made on auto adaptive waveform design.
