Archaising buildings with hip roof are also called "buildings with big roof", which is a kind of Chinese traditional buildings who have modern architecture functions. In 50s of last century, many buildings with big roof were constructed in china whose roofs were often made by woods. These roof structures are often compose purlines, rafter and wood sheathing, and they connected each other closely to carry the loads from roofs. After sixty years of using, some components of wood roof truss are damaged by rot and season check, and the whole roof structure are need to repair and reinforced. In this thesis, a teaching building constructed in 50s last century is taken as an example. Then calculation and analysis are carried out based on its roof structures:1. Inspections and statics on damages in roof structure, such as rots, season checks and flaws of design, are carried out. Then aiming at different kinds of damages, repairing methods are proposed. From the study, we find most components in the main roof structure can still be used and only a few ones need to be repaired.2. Simulation software ANSYS is used to carried out static loads analysis. The results show that all stresses in different components are in the range of design code permissions.3. Three typical roof trusses are chosen to carry out libration mode analysis, spectrum analysis and time history analysis respectively. In time history analysis, three kinds of earthquake spectrums:Tianjin earthquake wave, Qian'an earthquake wave and artificial earthquake wave are introduced to calculate structure responses. And the results show that the repairing designs meet the design code requirements.4. Fluid dynamics analysis on single eave and double eave building with big roof are also carried out by using of fluid calculation software FLUENT. And the distribution of pressure from wind can be obtained. Then mechanical analyses of roof structure are carried out based on the result above.
