Viscous damper is an effective method of controlling on structures. This thesis mainly aims at an actual project of a hotel at Hai Kou, which is a 10-story reinforced concrete frame structure, with 8 fortification intensity (0.30g). In that project, viscous damper is installed in the brace, acting as an energy dissipation system. Structure analysis software and finite element software are used for the following details. The actuality, the principle, and the characteristics of all kinds of controlling devices are studied. The engineering analysis software Midas/Gen and time history analysis are used to analyze the simplified three-dimensional model. Results are studied which include how maximum displacement, base shear, and drift angle of the structure perform with damping coefficient and speed index of viscous damper. For seismic design method, which formation response spectrum method, analysis of different method to calculate the additional viscous dampers for structural damping ratio. Application of finite element analysis software Abaqus consider the structure of the complex modal analysis and the viscous damper of damping for different modes of complex structures. Application of complex modal analysis method to calculate the additional structural damping ratio, and with the specifications in force decoupling method and compared, and analyze errors.
