The Hofmann reaction of PAM in papermaking has been widely used. In order to further optimize the application condition of this reaction, the methods of iodometric titration, colloid titration and viscosimetry were used to investigate the effect of reaction time, mass fraction of PAM, concentration of alkali and NaClO on the structures of products during Hofmann reaction of PAM in the chapter 1. In the chapter 2, the relationship between the product structures during Hofmann reaction of PAM and paper strength performance was discussed. Effects of the products during this reaction process in different alkali concentrations and NaClO concentrations on paper strength performance were respectively investigated. In the chapter 3, the relationship between the product structures during Hofmann reaction of PAM and retention and drainage in recycled pupls was discussed. Effects of the products during this reaction process in different alkali concentrations and NaCIO concentrations on retention and drainage in recycled pupls was respectively investigated. In the chapter 4, HPAM/starch was applied to papermaking and charactered by FTIR. The effect of amino content on paper strength performance was summarized. This provided applied foundation for multifuntional and cost-effective papermaking additives.
