With the development of wireless communications, waveguide filters with small size, low insertion loss and good frequency-selectivity are needed. The purpose of this thesis is to study and design new compact waveguide filters with these characteristics. The main works are summarized as follows:First of all, systematic filter design theories are reviewed and bring forward two kinds of Resonator-irises filter. Then, a systemic research of Resonator-irises and waveguide E-plane shorting stubs will be done. It consists of the relationship between the resonance frequency and the dimension of the Resonator-irises and the relationship between the transmission zero frequency and the dimension of the shorting stub.At last, on the research of single stub, multiple stubs are studied. These cascade stubs have different response with different length of connecting waveguide. They can be used to improve the performance of the filter.Sample filter has been fabricated and the tested result confirmed the concept and the simulated results. Such filter is smaller in size and can be applied widely in the electronic systems. In order to lower down the fabrication cost, error correction technique is used in the design of sample devices. In this thesis, this technique is also explained.
