The museum merchandise plays an indispensible role in interpreting collections, extending museums'educational function, supplementary financing, and enhancing museums'social status and image. However, this activity is still under development in China, with various problems. The successful museum merchandise marketing activities of the Metropolitan Museum provide advanced ways to tackle these problems, including policy designing and legislating on macro level, and innovating marketing concepts, strategies and practice on micro level.
