As the main branch of information hiding technology, reversible data hiding can maintain the cover medium unchanged after extracting secret information. It is widely used in the field of military, medical, jural and so on. Recently, reversible data hiding has become a popular research topic and achieves lots of improvements.In this thesis, we focus on the research of reversible data hiding in spatial domain, improve the difference expansion method, and expand the EMD algorithm, particle swarm optimization algorithm into the reversible data hiding. Furthermore, considering human visual system, we expand the methods in space domain into the wavelet domain and also achieve good performance (Capacity/PSNR). Some works have been completed as follows:(1) A novel reversible data hiding technique using difference expansion.We proposed a new reversible data hiding algorithm based on difference expansion. To achieve high embedding capacity and image quality, we shifted some difference values into the interval defined by the threshold. A small location map is created just for the difference inside this interval. Experiment results show that the proposed method has better performances than other methods in terms of high embedding capacity and low distortion.(2) A novel reversible data hiding based on exploiting modification direction algorithm.Exploiting modification direction algorithm can achieve high embedding capacity with less modification of the pixel value. According to this algorithm, we proposed a novel reversible data hiding based on exploiting modification direction algorithm. The proposed algorithm is suitable in the spatial domain and extended into the wavelet domain in accordance with Human Visual System. Furthermore, we extended this method into RGB images. Experiment results show that the proposed method achieve good performance.(3) Reversible data hiding based on particle swarm optimization algorithm.Analyzing data hiding method using image interpolation, we proposed a novel reversible data hiding method by transmitting high resolution images to obtain high embedding capacity and improve the security of the cover images. The proposed method made use of the LSB matching method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm to embed the secret data and maintain image quality.
