The exclusivity and invariability of fingerprints make it play an important role in the authentication field, so the fingerprint recognition technology as a reliable biometric technology is taken more seriously. On the other hand, wavelet transformation in the time domain and frequency domain also has a good localization and multi-resolution characteristics, its application to fingerprint matching algorithm can not only improve the accuracy and reliability of fingerprint recognition, but also fingerprint recognition technology is frontier areas of the subject with important research significance and research value.This article first discusses the concept of wavelet transformation and the basic principles and a brief introduction of the preprocessing. And the wavelet transformation applied to the preprocessing of fingerprint image recognition, a binary based on wavelet transform method. In order to match with the proposed new algorithm to compare, this paper introduces point extraction and matching algorithm. Finally, the paper proposes a new fingerprint recognition algorithm, this algorithm is based on the statistical characteristics of wavelet transformation. The advantage of this algorithm is that since the quality of fingerprint images is asked, so do not carry out the traditional pre-processing algorithm with cumbersome and complex aspects. Moreover, small memory requirements improves the speed of fingerprint identification.In matlab7.0,I did a lot of simulation experiments, have achieved relatively good results, and gives the effect of map. The proposed new algorithm was compared with the traditional algorithms,and simulation experimental results show that the new algorithm is a viable fingerprint matching algorithm with high recognition rate and recognition speed.
