The planar slot array antennas have the characteristics of compact structure, small thickness, light weight, high efficiency and easy to achieve low sidelobe. So it was widely used in radar and communications fields. The antenna of Longitudinal slots have strong capacity and firmly structure, can be widely used in fuze antennas, homing antennas, communications antennas and other types of radar antennas. The planar slot array antennas has been uesd to the second and third-generation fighter plane, the fourth-generation plane is used more advanced two-dimensional scan of the Phased Array Antennas. If as a fuse and homing antenna, there is a greater advantage at the structure, weight and cost-effective. This article first introduces the development background and the significance of status of the planar slot antenna and the merit of the taye antennas. It is very important to introduce the radiation characteristics of the waveguide slots and analysis methods, bacause it is very uesful for desiging the waveguide antennas. Different radiation slots have different equivalent circuit, radiation longitudinal slots corresponds to parallel admittance and oblique slot corresponds to series resistance. These equivalent circuit are the basic of the following to design slot array antenna. RS Elliott's three equations have enormous contribution to the design of planar slots antennas. This article describes the design of planar antennas using three equations, as well as the concrete steps. It will enable us to gain a deeper understanding of the theory of waveguide antennas. With many large commercial electric field simulation software market, the characteristic parameters of slots can be obtained through the simulation software. So we can through experimental and simulation approach to design of planar antennas. We know that the key of the design of waveguide slot antenna is to be able to get the relationship between the admittance, offset and length of the slots. After these steps,we can design the waveguide antennas. This solution through the combination of the equivalent circuit and simulation method to get slot admittance. Mutual coupling between slots are also important problem to slove in the process of the antenna designing. We simulate mutual coupling environment between slots through the establishment of a rectangular waveguide array. The premise here is to ignore the impact of mutual coupling in the large distance. The method not only takes into account the external mutual coupling between slots but also takes into account the internal mutual coupling.
