Television Communication In Emergencies Symbolic Interaction Theory

Based on the dissection process of television transmission in the"5?12"Wenchuan earthquake disaster relief, this thesis examines carefully the spread of mechanism of TV media during the course of participation and promotion to resolve the incident from the perspective of symbolic interaction, hence, the relevant relationships among roles, symbols, events is brouhgt into the research through the process of television transmission, focusing on probing into their own respective two-way impacts of the TV media itself and emergency on their own sides and comprehending the unique role of the television media in the promotion to solve the emergency, making an effort to find out the theoretical basis for the television media to participate the future emergencies more effectively .Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian scholar, has made a unique exploration in the research on communication , trying to explain the media itself from the view of art, rather than empirical approach to reach a conclusion. On view of a profound impact by McLuhan in research, this study has given up the traditional academic approach of logical analysis and empirical testing, instead, carried out a similar study to explore the arts. The thesis is based on the the symbolic interaction theory of sociology, consults some related disciplines such as communication, semiotics, law, ethics, psychology, aesthetics, philosophy to establish analytical tools of the article itself, with the help of previous academic works, the relevant papers, network information and my own observations to summarize material, seek the index, establish the model , explain the mechanism. As a mater of fact, this approach itself s a new exploration in some sense. This article concludes that the spread operation of emergency by the television media produces mutual construction on the information collecting, collating and disseminating in the course, that is,"emergency"and"media events"affecting each other, not only promote solution of emergency, but also enhance the media's own function status.This thesis consists of three parts. The first part reviews the relevant theory of main areas, focusing on interpretation of symbols, the role of citizens right to information, dissemination of aesthetics, the significance of the spread of the theory construction .etc. intending to lay the theory foundation of their own. The second part focuses on the example of 5 ? 12 through presenting the causes, results and characteristics of earthquake relief after to provide factual basis for further analysis. The third part summarizes and analyses interaction between the role, symbol and the dissemination of the TV situation, trying to establish a certain theoretical model to explain the interaction mechanism of the main participants, the public, government, television and other media.
