Large current, under which a relativistic magnetron is operated, results in an azimuth magnetic field, which gives the electrons a force and make electrons escape from the interaction space before energy of the electrons is converted to rf energy sufficiently. That will substantially reduce the efficiency. This paper gives a brief introduction of the research history of the high power microwave devices. Under this circumstance and based on the theories of Relative Magnetron (RM) and Magnetically Insulated Transmission Line Oscillator (MILO), we introduce a new kind of high power microwave device—Cross-field Oscillator with Helix-cavity(COH). This new device can convert the energy of the electron to the microwave power azimuthally and axially. According to the elementary "cold" analysis of "helix cavity", we can conclude that if we choose the method of twisting and direction of uniform, applied magnetic field (Bz) appropriately, we can counteract tendency of escaping so as to reduce the leakage current and enhance the overall efficiency. This assumption is confirmed by the PIC method using Magic. In this paper, first, we introduce the theory of Cross-field Oscillator with Helix-cavity (COH). Then, we analyze the field-distribution in the High-frequency structure with helix cavity and gain the distribution function in the interaction space. Base on this function, we study the 3D electronic trajectories in the interaction space and find the relation between the axial drift, twisting method and direction of uniform magnetic field. Finally, Computer carry out the Particle in cell (PIC) simulation, and according to the data we get, we can conclude that Cross-field Oscillator with Helix-cavity can reduce the leakage current and enhance the overall efficiency.
