Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) has been greatly developed in recent years because it combines both the advantages of WLAN and Ad Hoc networks. Along as the increasement of the network size and data transmission requirement, how to store and manage the data in WMN efficiently has become an important problem to research. Because the terminal nodes in WMN has the attribute of mobility and self organization, and the transmission between the terminal nodes and backbone nodes is unstable due to the interruption from the environment, current data storage and management strategies in similar networks cannot be available in WMN environment. Hence it is necessary to propose novel data storage and management strategy in wireless mesh networks to reduce the transmission cost and the time delay during query processing. This thesis proposes a data storage and distribution strategy in WMN environment. According to the strategy, the data generated by the terminal nodes are efficiently distributed into the network, and hence the influence to the data transmission caused by the movement of the terminals and the link failure is reduced. Based on the two different network models—data storage on backbone network and data storage on terminal network, the storage model can be divided into four models, which are single producer vs single consumer, single producer vs multiple consumers, multiple producers vs single consumer, and multiple producers vs multiple consumers. Efficient data storage and management strategies are proposed in the four models respectively. Then, this thesis performs extensive experiments to verify the efficiency of the data storage strategy. The result shows that both the two techniques reduce the transmission cost and delay significantly. Finally, a prototype of data storage in WMN is implemented, and the evaluation of the performance with different parameters and analysis for the algorithms are presented.
