Research And Implementation Of Snmp-based Network Monitoring System

Network monitoring system is an effective way to help network manager control the status of the network, detect the fault of the net and maintenance the normal opertaion of the network. However, there have been rapidly developments in the computer network and there have been many extensive applications. At the same time, the network's scale has become enhancement and larger, the sophistication and complexity of networks is growing as well, all these factors threaten the safety of network and improve the difficulty of network management.The Network monitoring system based on the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) has the advantage of simple structure and strong expandability. As a consequence, this is of significant meaningful in the study of the Network monitoring system based on the SNMP.The SNMP and its Management Model is analyzed, and the Network monitoring system based on the SNMP is realized.The main contribution of this paper is:(1) Based on characteristics of the SNMP management model, the basic structure model of the Network monitoring system is proposed, through the stratify the function of the hardware structure, the system is divided into four function modules, and the implementation method of each function module is designed.(2) The client interface satisfied the all kinds of performance indices is designed and realized by Java. User can monitor the state of network a by receiving the warning message from the main interface.(3) The data acquisition module collected the data for different kinds of performance indices from the network equipment is designed and realized by C++. The system is designed as distributed system . Meanwhile, compared with the way of single acquisition Agent, the proposed method is alleviated the pressure of the Agent and increase the reliability of the system. This module is the key parts of the system, and is research emphasis of this paper.(4) Based on the problem of the safety in the course of studying, the security of SNMP and the corresponding solutions is discussed. Furthermore, this paper introduces the definition of the security management model, which is our further subject to study.
