In recent years, the IEEE 802.16 series of broadband wireless access standards have been greatly concerned by the industry. The fixed access supported IEEE 802.16d-2004 standard was publicated on October 2004. And IEEE 802.16e released by the end of 2005 increases support of mobility.Schemes and algorithms, in resource allocation and scheduling module design of IEEE 802.16e wireless broadband metropolitan area network, are discussed here. On the basis of IEEE 802.16e MAC layer and physical layer detailed analysis, an overall structure of resource allocation and scheduling module is designed based on 1024 point FFT, 10MHz bandwith and 5ms frame length physical layer entity, with MAC layer supporting UGS, ertPS and BE service. The entire module is divided by function to CID list management, resource allocation and scheduling, resource mapping and predictive resource allocation sub-modules, whose functions are clearly defined. Resource allocation and scheduling and resource mapping schemes and algorithms are detailed.Based on the full study of resource allocation and scheduling and resource mapping, corresponding modules are designed as follows: BE service CIDs are put into different ToS queues according to their priorities for scheduling. At each round, total resources allocated to BE service are assigned to different ToS queues according to their weights. Further more, an algorithm limiting resource allocated to head-of-queue CID is used to guarantee the fairness among CIDs in the same queue. And accoding to the Maximum Sustained Rate parameter, the peak rate of BE service is controlled. A novel resource mapping algorithm is used for downlink Subframe. With semi-fixed time domain, sub-channels in frequency domain are allocated. Resource are adjusted by up or down rounding operation in accordance with its service type and finally mapped onto rectangular areas of OFDMA frames in time domain and frequency domain on the two-dimension space.Aiming at problems in resource allocation and scheduling and resource mapping of IEEE 802.16, the relevant achieve is implemented on ODU9000 platform. The performance of adopted schemes and algoritms is verified by system test.
