"Sanli" is a set of three pieces of ancient texts which has recorded the articles and things and the political systems of pre-Han China. The name "Sanli" (three books about "Li禮")was used since Zheng Xuan(鄭玄127-200)' s annotation on the books "Zhouli"《周禮》,"Yili"《儀禮》and "Liji"《禮記》.Since the earliest days, scholars have considered it as the most difficult one for study among the Confucian classics for the mysterious terminologies used and the complicated doctrines recorded. And the errors produced in the copying process for two thousand years have also added difficulties to the studies. All these have made Chinese scholars to believe that even effort of generations spent will not gain some remarkable results. The citation of "Sanli" seen in other texts is then a valuable reference for distinguishing variant readings.Li Xian(李賢651-684)' s annotation of "Hou Han shu"(《後漢書》)has referred up to four hundred books and nearly eight thousand pieces of these annotations refer to a old version of ancient texts, and most of them show differences to the version which is commonly used today. This old version of Sanli found in Li' s annotation considerably become an important tool to correct the errors in the modern version for its earlier copying time. Therefore, the thesis contains these four parts.First of all,it' s to discuss how Li' s citation of San Li in his annotation can help correct the common version of San Li.Also,it is trying to find out if the parts not found in the common version are the parts missing or just miss-add by Li in his annotation. Also, differences in words between the two versions will be discussed.Lastly,it will look into Li' s annotation to see his various misunderstanding towards San Li.There is also a "table of citation of San Li in Li Xian's annotation of Hou Han shu" for reference.
