Patient record is the base of hospital. As the patient record has the properities of the multimedia, semi-structured, long-time storage and huge information, the research of gathering, processing, storing and exchanging information of patient record is an important task of hospital information.This paper researchs into the function and performace of EMR (electronical Medical Record), including gathering, storing, displaying, describing, exchanging and security and so on, compares the storage models of EMR data based on text, based on Relation Database, based on Object Oriented Database, based on Index Documents, and based on Compressed Files. After that, the sider-table mapping, attribute mapping, unification mapping, and data-type mapping being analyzed, a new storage strategy of EMR based on XML is presented, named departed node and attribute strategy, which is better than others on querying, storing and updating data. At last, a three-layer system framework of EMR based on XML is presented, and its design and implementation is given, which is worth applying.The organic combination of XML, EMR and Relation Database, solves the problem of the integrality, veracity, perfectibility and long-time storage of patient information, which has an important effect in hospital information.
