With the progressive of embedded system technology and demand of customers for handset, it has been widly applied in many areas. As a result, personal handset spred very rapidly and from the high-end smart phones to low-cost students electronic dictionary can be seen everywhere. However, most of the products on the market currently are high-end oriented, with luxury configuration and very expensive. In contrary, the equipment in low-end are simply in functionality and couldn't meet the demand of users. Therefore, the author proposed a low cost handset with comparatively powerful function.Considering the condition of software and hardware handset in the current market, the researcher used Samsung's S3C44B0X CPU. It's a high-performance and cost-effective 32 bit RISC processor with ARM7TDMI core. The operate system is based onμClinux, which has been widely applied in embedded systems with no MMU, because of its significant advantages, such as open source codes and powerful network support etc. The main work of this paper is analyzing the source codes of U-boot and porting of it; researchμClinux kernel structure and process management and memory management, ported theμClinux to the platform; ported Microwindows to the platform and develop some utility.
