The fog's influences on the pulse laser's transmission are analyzed in theory and validated by experimentation. The experiment results indicated that the pulse laser width is spread with the pulse laser transmitting in the atmosphere. The spread extent of pulse width is increase with the fog concentration is increased. The article is composed of 5 chapters. Contents and significances of research were introduced in chapter 1. In Chapter 2, the development and application of pulse laser were described. First, the technologies of producing pulse laser were summarized and two important technologies named by Modulate Q and Lock module were introduced. Then the applications of the pulse laser especially in the field of lidar and Free Space Optics were introduced. In Chapter 3, the theory about the fog influences on the pulse laser transmission was described. At first, the main components of atmosphere are given and fog characteristics including the mechanism of forming, classes and the particles distribution were introduced. The general characteristics of the pulse laser transmission in the atmosphere were described in the second part. These characteristics include absorbency, dispersion, atmospheric on flow and high-power-pulse nonlinearity. In the third part, the pulse width spread and multiple scattering theory of pulse laser transmission in the atmosphere were analyzed in detail. In chapter 4 the experiment design was introduced and experiment datum were analyzed. The experiment design like feasibility study, device design, measurement method and notice proceeding were introduced. The experiment results were summarized and the relation curve of pulse width and optical constant of atmosphere has been drawn, moreover according the experiment results were measurement method of the atmosphere visibility has been put forward. The conclusion was summarized and the next work to be improved on pulse laser was described in chapter 5.
