The third generation of mobile communication (3G). is the one that can provide us with much more kinds of multimedia services, spread over any corner of the earth without any miss, travel globally, and do any kind of communication any time and any place. Because of its many advantages, it has become more and more attractive for the world's major players in telecommunications and the information society. WCDMA, as the leading technique of 3G, which has developed rapidly, is the most competitive among the three specifications of 3G (WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and CDMA2000).The task in this paper is to realize the low noise amplifier (LNA) and down converter for the radio frequency (RF) module of 2.14GHz WCDMA system in TSMC 0.18μm CMOS technology. The first stage amplifier amplifies the weak signal from antenna introducing low noise. The input needs to be matched to 50Ohm. The latter one realizes the mixing of signal from LNA and local oscillator and output low intermediate frequency (IF) signal. Low noise, high linearity and moderate gain are needed for this module.Based on the analysis of the front end principle, different circuit structures are compared. The circuit design, layout design, simulation results and test solutions are introduced. The simulation results show that the low-noise low-power RF front end matches the design target.
