Lan Performance Testing Methods

New applications and demands of network emerge in endlessly recently with the rapid development of Internet. At the same time, network also bears the weight of integrated and value-added task including speech, video, data processing and so on from its traditional applications such as WWW, FTP and Email. Network complexity increases whereas consumers show their increasing dissatisfaction to network connection rate and service quality with comparison to the enlargement of network scale and the increase of bandwidth. Furthermore, consumers show their less understanding of flux characteristics of network data traffic, routing, resource utilization because of the paroxysmal characteristics of network flux as they always receive the best-effort service of IP network. A great deal of network testing was taken in order to understand the internal function mechanism of internet. Kinds of network action are investigated through analysis of the tested data. On the basis of this analysis, the guideline which reflects the network function, that is to say, whether the network performance has been improved and whether the network abnormity can be detected in time, is provided and help to find the location of the network broken-down. In fact, network testing has been an important method to manage and program the network performance. The large bandwidth and the hybrid network operation bring about the technical difficulty of network testing. Therefore, network testing, monitoring and managing have become the key problems which are yet to be solved.Local area network (LAN) as the basic structure unit finds its wide-spread applications in information transmitting and its performance plays an very important role in the well-balanced function of network. There are some LAN quality problems such as insufficient bandwidth, unstable system, farraginous software, bad safety precautions and so on because of the behindhand national standard, economy and technique, which harm the consumer's interest and the network function greatly. Thus working-out and carrying-out LAN quality testing standard just stare us in the face.Many technique index such as transmission time delay, bandwidth, flux ,loss rate, error rate and so on can incarnate LAN performance. Several active LAN systems were tested through investigation of some important technical index such as transmission time delay, bandwidth, flux and combination the related testing items in local testing criterions of LAN system in Henan province (DB41/T399—2005). The definition, formation mechanism and influencing factors of the related index were analyzed and studied on the basis of the tested data and the engineering testing methods corresponding to different parameters were achieved. The above work plays an active part in carrying out the LAN standard.The subsequent research on working-out and carrying-out of local testing criterions of LAN system was carried out in this paper which could further promote the development, rationalization and standardization of the testing technique and methods of LAN system in Henan province.
