With the fast development of the integrated circuit (IC), SoC has become the development trend of the very large scale integrated circuit (VLSI), and the mainstream of the IC in the new century. The design and realization of SoC must adopt the ways ground on IP reuse, because of the high complexity of the circuit, the demands of cutting back the development cycle and the cost-cutting. The key and foundation of SoC design is the development of IP cores. In this thesis, the author states the study, design and validation of IP of 16 bit MCU.In this thesis, the author mainly introduces the design way and flow of reusable IP cores with the model of 16 bit MCU which is extensive used and has a powerful function. The design, with Verilog HDL, realizes the IP core on FPGA after the steps of synthesis, placing, routing, functional simulation and timing simulation. Finally, the author verifies IP on FPGA with ChipScope. This thesis puts forward the realizing methods of IP cores like CPU in the each step, such as structure partition, simulation, FPGA verification. The author accomplishes the task of developing and verifying IP of 16 bit MCU. The IP is compatible with the 80196 MCU in the aspects of instruction repertoire and peripheral equipment, which has a large significance in developing IP core, constructing IP library and developing SoC in the future.
