The overseas research status and theory and experiments of the rod-pinch diode are briefly introduced. Based on the basic theory, the particle movement has been simulated by using Magic program. The high impedance rod-pinch diode has been designed and machined, as well as the geodesic devices. The characteristic of the rod-pinch diode has been investigated based on 3MV X-ray generation.In the overseas research status of the rod-pinch diode, this paper mainly introduced the status involved U.S, British, France and so on. The domestic research about this has not been found.Used Laminar model and numerical simulation, the equilibrium equations has been solved. The waves of diode voltage and current have been simulated and compared with the experimental result and theoretical solution.By way of the experimental flat of the rod-pinch diode, the 3MV X-ray generation is changed and reduced the output voltage. Based on the status of the experimental flat, the high impedance rod-pinch diode has been designed and tested. This paper mainly measured the voltage, current, output dose, source diameter, dose angular distributing of x-ray source. The 3MV X-ray generation has met the following design specifications: 2.2MV output voltage, 33kA output current, 1.2mm source diameter, and 130mR dose at a distance of 1m.The results of experiment have indicated that the merit of the rod-pinch diode is obvious, but the physics damage of the rod confined the development of the rod-pinch diode.
