The applications of video image processing technology are more and more wide. Many kinds of arithmetic of image processing are more mature and relative hardware technology is upgrading constantly. The fast development of modern VLSI technology has provided the base of hardware for the video image processing technology, in which it is specially good that Field Programmable Gate Array are used in embedded video image processing operations. Good produce performance, high integration degree and low power consumption not only make FPGA have high capability of high speed CPU, but also make designers can upgrade systems by reworking and configuring the logic structure easily and conveniently because of its programmability. And its flexibleness can also make designers develop new products and stand market rapidly.In this paper, pointing to the application of video image processing based on FPGA, the chip structure and function characteristics of FPGA, relative knowledge of video decoding and encoding, design methods of video image processing hardware platform and boundary scan testing technology have been studied, and a kind of designing project has been put forward, and the hardware circuit based on XC2S200 which is a kind of Xilinx Inc.'Spartan II series FPGA has been designed and realized. This hardware platform combined with correlative arithmetic software codes can achieve some kinds of image processing functions, such as enhancing shimmer image signal and reducing the yawp of video image data and so on.In the part of hardware design of this paper, circuit schematic design, PCB design and system testing have been included. The circuit schematic design mainly includes the system's function description of each hardware module, it self's running environment demands and their connecting relationships. PCB design mostly includes the system's size programming, board layer programming and routing design. System testing includes function testing of hardware system and software running testing. Based on this hardware platform, the software design has also been discussed.
