Based On The Windows Ethernet Switch Simulation And Realization

With the development of computer network at high-speed, the demand of network application is increased all the time. The Ethernet switch based on TCP/IP is becoming the important communication equipment, but high-end distributive Ethernet switch is too expensive to use in education, and added the cost of equipment manufacture.After the research of the architecture and the functions of 3-layer Ethernet switch in detail, the thesis brings forward a plan that using a emulating switch based on Windows instead of high-end switch and transplanting the switch operation system form embedded system to Microsoft Windows.The thesis introduces the principium of layer 2 and layer 3 forwarding, the simulating the process of forwarding, the methods of solving problem in simulating, the way to emulating function modules, and the test result of the performance and functions of the switch.The virtual switch is a process running in memory, which can emulate the hardware of real switch. All the software running in real switch can also run in the virtual switch, and the way to configure is all the same. The framework of network can change freely over modifying the configuration file. Especially, the virtual switch realizes the distributive function, which can simulate the process of inserting and removing.Virtual Switch still have a long distance to achieve, this research is just a beginning, which needs our continued efforts.
